I have quite some add-ons but I know that they are all dragging my computer slow gradually, and so I disable some of them now, using only some essential ones.
If they add more functionality to my browser, why not?
These days computers should be faster and faster, right?

Vincent, the Angelworld WebmasterReally? Okay, so far i tried chrome, IE and firefox. What they say bout firefox is kinda true but you can choose NOT to include those add ons right?

Exactly, you can choose.
And Chrome will have add-on features later too, and I guess having add-ons is helpful to many people, which actually enhances browsing experience. As always, too much of anything is never healthy.

Vincent, the Angelworld WebmasterI'd place Chrome nearer to Safari, or somewhere between Safari and Firefox in terms of features, it already has extensions and themes.
Opera's not a bad choice, the Windows version seems good at keeping memory use low. Not a lot of people use it though compared to e.g. Firefox -- but Firefox is open source and comes pre-installed in a lot of Linux distros, so it's got some marketshare from there.

Too lazy to try other browser
. Got comfy with Firefox, gonna stick with it. Tho, i remember having some weird experience with chrome. When i type in 192.168.0.1 to access my modem, it automatically goes to the search function
Talking bout add-ons, you guys uses any? I don't ._. not even one.

Keeping it simple?
I'd have 5-6 add-ons if I use Firefox regularly (mouse gestures, Firebug, Adblock Plus, etc.) Lately with Chrome, just mouse gestures and a YouTube video downloader.

I have more than 10 add-ons. They include Firebug, Download Statusbar, Crystal Menu, Gmail Manager, Yahoo Mail Manager, Fission, SkipScreen, Flash Blocker, Greasemonkey, Tong Wen Tang and Tab Mix Plus.

Yeah, holding down a click and dragging your mouse in a pattern to trigger an action. For example, you can click and drag left to go back to a previous page.

Nice, just installed it, still trying to get used to it

It colors your tabs and if the tabs are of the same domain, they will be in the same color too.
You can change the intensity (or opacity) of the colors on your tab, which is very good.

Sounds like you have a huge screen and you make the browser window maximized!

Vincent, the Angelworld Webmaster

Well talking bout that, you guys don't maximize your browser
?

I don't, because my screen is wide and I don't want to have a lot of space on two sides...

I would rather have more things on my screen, and so I won't allow my browser to take all the space

Vincent, the Angelworld Webmaster

Vincent, the Angelworld WebmasterI use it maximized.

Another "doesn't maximise browser" count -- usually I leave a gap to click on a temporary item on the desktop, or to call up another open window (e.g. file manager) in the background. Unless it's a small screen, e.g. a small notebook.
Oh yeah, I also do that too, leaving some space around my browser so that I can click on other things like Adium, or I can see any download process like copying files and stuff (seeing a box behind the browser; maximizing the browser will block any view on those boxes)
Btw, IE 9 "finally" does something good.
So sad that it is like it finally does something properly, haha...anyway it is still something good to hear.

It will always stay, because it comes with Windows, the OS used by most people...

Vincent, the Angelworld Webmaster

Vincent, the Angelworld WebmasterIn EU, Windows will be required to show a screen to let people choose among different browsers to install. Guesses on which one people would choose?

Oh yeah, M$ lost that lawsuit and was forced to accept that option. Is there any statistics for that option screen?

I have all the popular browsers on my computer: Safari, Chrome, Firefox; I also have IE on my Windows partition and Parallels virtualization.
Web designers just need all of them for testing their works, haha....

I really hope that they can standard some rendering engines, so that pages over the world look the same. I mean, there is no reason at all for them to make everything look so different. For what? To be more "outstanding" than other browsers? *shrug*

It just died because it didn't fight IE in some way even after AOL's acquisition. Also, it was not written to be so flexible and robust like the other project the company started, called Mozilla, which leads to the current Firefox.

Quoting from Wikpedia - Netscape [ link ]
A new version of the Netscape browser, Netscape Navigator 9, based on Firefox 2, was released in October 2007. It featured a sleek green and grey interface. In November 2007, IE had 77.4% of the browser market, Firefox 16.0% and Netscape 0.6%, according to Net Applications, an Internet metrics firm.[22] On December 28, 2007, AOL announced that on February 1, 2008 it would drop support for the Netscape web browser and would no longer develop new releases. The date was later extended to March 1[23] to allow a major security update and to add a tool to assist users in migrating to other browsers. These additional features were included in the final version of Netscape Navigator 9 (version 9.0.0.6), released on February 20, 2008.

Yes, indeed. I remember I didn't really like Netscape because of the page rendering engine, but it ran everything much better than IE, from security to page loading engine...

Vincent, the Angelworld Webmaster

Vincent, the Angelworld WebmasterWell then, next on the list, my bet would be IE. But since it is microsoft product, i think it wouldn't die that fast.

hmm, to some extent, i do agree with crays, but the internet today is really like driven by the consumer, and its a leveled playing field, such that Google whom has taken the advantage of tapping the trend and has a flexible model soars like a rocket for the past years.

I come, I see, I Shoot

I come, I see, I Shoot

IE won't die, just as Safari won't because they come with their OS.
And yeah, Google really takes advantage of their cool ideas and instantly apply that in their products, creating great software for our daily use. One of their keys to success is that they are wiling to rethink and redefine things that we use every day. For Gmail, they know everyone just needs fast loading and all-on-the-same-page layout, and they used AJAX so extensively to create this really unified and user-friendly layout.
And it works so well that people love it, and most importantly, other mail services are copying that. When people copy you, it means you are doing a great job
